Golf
The Costa Blanca is a real paradise for golf lovers. It has become one of the leading international centres for golf all year round, thanks to the exceptional climate with over 300 sunny days a year, and the easy access from the main tourist markets. The courses have first-rate facilities and are generally sited on the coast close to the main tourist resorts. There are currently over 15 courses along the Costa Blanca, all located less than a 45 minutes drive along dual carriageways or motorways from El Altet airport. Some of the facilities have been designed by top golfers such as Severiano Ballesteros.

Natural Parks
Extending all the way across the municipal areas of Torrevieja, Los Montesinos and Guardamar del Segura are the La Mata and Torrevieja lagoons, which are still used for salt extraction, as they have been for many decades. Salt water is drawn from the Cabeç de la Sal in Pinoso and left to dry in the sun until the water evaporates. The marshlands here are an important wintering and nesting area for over one hundred bird species, such as the greater flamingo, the black-necked grebe and various duck varieties. To the north of the La Mata lagoon, near the mouth of the river Segura, are the Guardamar dunes, whose location is now stable due to large pine plantations that prevent them from moving inland.
What to eat?
There is a great tradition of local gastronomy. Using the fruits of the local agricultural production local master chefs have developed succulent and delicious dishes for all kinds of palates. From early in the day many gastronomic establishments open their doors to serve breakfast or a mid-morning snack. To go with creamy coffee, natural orange juice squeezed from the best local oranges, there is toast sprinkled with olive oil and appetizing sweet pastries recently taken out of one of the traditional baking ovens. At midday the custom in this region is to go to a bar to have some home-made "tapas", including a great variety of green salads, mayonnaise salads, typical chard (acelgas) fried with garlic, bean omelette, black pudding fried with onion and croquette potatoes with cod.Local rice dishes are a must to try, prepared as they are with the best homemade sausages. Other local dishes are turkey stew and a wide variety of other stews, rices and hams. And for dessert a wide range of cakes and sweets appropriate for every time of the year. Home-baking ovens are to be found in many bakery and cake shops as well as in the covents of the town which specialise in almond tarts and other local specialities: "chatos", "zamorras" and "gloria" cakes. All lovers of good food will find a wide variety of bars and restaurants in the town and area of Orihuela offering a huge range of excellent local dishes.
